A ‘Youth Environmental Diplomat’ from Bangladesh, Faruqul Islam has a Masters in Law, majoring in International Environmental Law and Human Rights. He has completed specialized courses on International Law and International Relations through the Indian Academy of International Relations and Diplomacy, New Delhi, India.
He represented his country in various International forums and conferences, like- Asia-Pacific Youth Forum on Climate Actions & Mountain Issues, Nepal; UNEP-TUNZA International Children and Youth Conference, Indonesia; Eye on Earth Summit, Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Islam was one of the drafting members of Asia-Pacific Youth Position Paper towards Rio+20. He actively contributed in drafting ‘Bandung Declaration of Children & Youth for Rio+20’. He has contributed in ‘South and Central Asia Regional Virtual Consultation on Youth Perspectives on Rio+20’. Mr.Islam now works as a country coordinator for Youth Climate Report and he is also involved with United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh where he is working with the theme of ‘leadership through volunteerism’.
He worked as a youth motivator of Duke of Edinburgh Foundation, Bangladesh. He runs an independent youth organization ‘Spondon’ which works for sustainable youth development. He was awarded ‘Best Public Speaker’ by the British Council, Chittagong, Bangladesh in Public Speaking Session on the occasion of Commonwealth Day, 2009.
