YOUTH CLIMATE REPORT 4 TO SCREEN AT COP19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

TORONTO (November 8, 2013) – The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is pleased to announce that it will be screening the fourth edition of the Youth Climate Report film series COP19 in Warsaw, November 11 to 22, 2013.

The film series that presents new climate research through youth reporters worldwide first premiered at COP17 in Durban, Africa. The project is a partnership between UNEP and Canada’s Neko Harbour Entertainment, Inc.

This year’s edition of YCR will showcase fascinating new findings related to climate research with respect to new melting models at the polar regions as well as from a planetary perspective.

One of the featured scientists is Dr. Richard Peltier, Director of the Centre for Global Change Science and Scientific Director of SciNet who will discuss his latest research in geophysical fluid dynamics, the physics of the planetary interior, and planetary climate and consequences for climate change in the future.

The film will also feature Serbian scientist Dr. Slobodan Simonovic, Research Chair in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction. He will discuss his recent work in risk and reliability, water resources and
environmental systems analysis, water resources and flood control.

Nick Nuttall, Spokesperson for UNEP, said: ”The impacts of climate change represent some of the most potent symbols of humanity’s current pathway of unsustainable development and are a rallying call for everyone to look hard and long at the world each one of us is delivering to our children and future generations”.

“Economies need to reconnect with real wealth, re-design their financial markets to invest in the low carbon future and put a price on carbon — this film comes just two years before nations have agreed to a new and universal climate agreement. It is yet another potent and persuasive visualization why all sectors of society need to scale up their ambition for a inclusive green economy world-wide,” he added.

The documentary feature was produced specifically for delegates attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate (COP19) in Warsaw this year. This fourth edition of YCR was produced and directed by Canadian filmmaker Ray Kocur.
